Top German Diabetes Centers Adopt Eyenuk AI Technology

August 24, 2021 – Eyenuk is proud to announce the expansion of our customer base in Germany for automated diabetic retinopathy (DR) detection by the EyeArt® artificial intelligence (AI) system. Now the EyeArt AI system is used in 3 out of 4 German hospitals listed among the top 50 hospitals in Newsweek Magazine’s World’s Best Specialized Hospitals for Endocrinology 2021 list.

These top-ranked German hospitals for endocrinology are The Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia (NDZ NRW) in Bad Oeynhausen, the Diabetes Center Mergentheim, and Tübingen University Hospital.

The Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia (NDZ NRW) in Bad Oeynhausen, a research hospital of the Ruhr-University Bochum, is ranked 14th for endocrinology in the world by Newsweek and is renowned for its expertise in diabetic, cardiac, and vascular care. Nearly 2,000 patients with diabetes are treated annually at NDZ NRW.

Diabetes Center Mergentheim was the first German institution and one of the first centers in the world to implement the EyeArt AI system. Eyenuk’s success at the Diabetes Center Mergentheim has been highlighted by the diatec journal recently in an article featuring Professor Dr. Thomas Haak’s insights on how innovation like the EyeArt AI system is advancing care for patients with diabetes. Diabetes Center Mergentheim is ranked 33rd for endocrinology in the world by Newsweek.

Founded in 1805, the Tübingen University Hospital is one of the 34 university hospitals in Germany that contribute to the successful combination of high-performance medicine, research, and teaching. The hospital’s Department of Endocrinology, Diabetology, Angiology, and Nephrology provides care for patients with diseases of the endocrine glands, pancreas, blood vessels, and kidney. The department mainly specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes mellitus, with over 2,160 inpatients every year. FOCUS Magazine has recognized the diabetology unit of the department as one of the best facilities in Germany for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Approximately 10 million people are living with diabetes in Germany, which has the highest prevalence of diabetes in Europe.
