Diabetes is a national public health threat in Armenia, and a lack of resources, public awareness, and specialists has been a barrier to effective diabetic eye screening programs.

The Armenian EyeCare Project, in conjunction with the Armenian Ministry of Health and the World Diabetes Foundation, began a nationwide program to improve geographic and financial access to diabetes-related eye care, increase the capacity of medical professionals, and enhance diabetes-related advocacy.
